Customized & Just-In-Time: RTIC Case Study
When speed, agility, and accuracy are at the core of delivering exceptional customer experiences, you need the right hands on deck at the right time. Since 2019, RTIC has partnered with Veryable to build a highly flexible labor pool that supports its growth across B2B and direct-to-consumer (DTC) channels. From fulfilling bulk custom orders to expanding new product lines and launching innovative programs like MyRTIC, Veryable has become a critical component of RTIC’s strategy to meet demand, maintain quality, and deliver on time — even during their busiest peaks.
Dynamic, Efficient, Flexible
RTIC’s in-house Custom Shop processes B2B orders of all sizes, from a single case to over 10,000 pieces, with a focus on rapid turnaround. As Chris Chelko, President of the RTIC Custom Shop, explains:
“As we grow, it’s all about becoming more efficient in our operations and scaling so we can satisfy customer demand. Our demand isn’t always super smooth — orders fluctuate. Veryable helps us scale our workforce to match that demand. We can plan in advance, bring in the right folks, and work through our processes to meet customer timelines.”
This flexible approach helps RTIC maintain a 7–10 day turnaround time for custom orders, far faster than the industry average of six to eight weeks. Chelko says:
“When I talk to new customers, they expect six or eight weeks of lead time. I tell them, ‘I can get it to you in two weeks.’ That’s a key differentiator. But that speed creates peaks and valleys in demand, and Veryable helps us there too.”
Alex Martinez, Director of Operations, highlights another advantage:
“Before Veryable, we had to hire people full-time, and you don’t always know their potential until they’ve been here for a while. With Veryable, it’s easier to pick and choose who fits best, keep them around, and build a relationship.”
Supporting Customization at Scale
RTIC’s expansion of its personalized offerings — including MyRTIC, which provides engraved, one-off custom products directly to consumers — shows how on-demand labor can power innovation.
As RTIC developed this new process, they leveraged a combination of core employees and Veryable operators trained specifically for the program. According to Martinez:
“Since it was brand new, we didn’t have anyone trained. We had a couple full-time employees, myself included, running the equipment day one. But we also brought in five or six Veryable operators, trained them, and they learned with us. That was vital to getting the operation off the ground.”
This on-demand model made it possible to scale quickly while maintaining regular production. Martinez continues:
“We saw a high order volume with MyRTIC, which meant running a second shift, adding four or five extra hours a day. Veryable helped us do that quickly, and it was sustainable even through peak season.”
Keeping Up With Seasonal Surges
RTIC experiences a dramatic surge in demand starting in the fall and peaking through Christmas, when they run double shifts to maximum output.
“Orders drop in, and we can respond quickly,” says Chelko. “With Veryable, if we need five people one day, we get them. If we come in on Monday and have 3,000 more orders than expected, by ten o’clock we can have another group of people in here.”
Because RTIC has built a robust labor pool on Veryable, many of the operators are familiar with their processes and can jump right in, even mid-day.
“That flexibility is critical,” Martinez adds. “We can evaluate performance, tag people based on how they do, and then bring back those A-players whenever demand ramps up again.”
Delivering With Speed and Quality
RTIC’s commitment to industry-leading turnaround times is made possible by its agile labor strategy built for real-time adaptation. Martinez explains:
“In MyRTIC, we’re trying to get drinkware out the same day or next day. Even at Christmas, we were meeting deadlines because of the flexible labor pool. If we needed a dozen people, they were there. It’s huge for us.”
The ability to respond mid-shift has also been critical:
“Some people like that flexibility in their schedule. Maybe they couldn’t come in at seven a.m., but at ten they can work five or six hours. That helps us get more product out the door, which is what we’re always aiming for.”
A Future Built on Agility
Looking ahead, RTIC plans to continue leveraging the Veryable platform to support continued growth and expansion. From one-off custom products to high-volume B2B orders, their labor pool empowers them to move fast, maintain quality, and keep customers delighted.
“Really, you never know exactly what your day is going to look like,” Martinez concludes. “But with Veryable, we can adapt — day to day, hour to hour — and that gives us a huge competitive advantage.”
